Effective late 2021; Radiology Associates of North Texas will now employ 236 radiologists.

Fort Worth, TX – September 1st, 2021 – Radiology Associates of North Texas (RANT) has announced that they will officially merge with Sherman Radiology Associates (SRA) as of September 1st, 2021, and Texarkana Radiology Associates (TRA) later this year.

RANT’s goal through its Independent Radiology Network (IRN) is to provide a networking and support system for radiology groups throughout the state of Texas who have a desire to remain independent from private equity and wish to align with a robust private radiology practice.

RANT, SRA, and TRA engaged in merger discussions prior to the pandemic and continued throughout. Talks focused on how a merger would benefit each of the groups and the patients they serve in and around North Texas.

“One of the things that our group was lacking was innovative and comprehensive practice management,” said Dr. Paul Wheeler, a physician at SRA. Merging with RANT means that we now have access to the entire RANT administrative team, including those specializing in Human Resources, Accounting, Information Technology, Marketing, and Operations. In addition, a Teleradiology Assistant support team fields phone calls 24/7/365 between referring physicians, the hospitals, and the radiologists to facilitate the best possible patient care.”

Both SRA and TRA physicians will also gain access to RANT’s integration network (branded RadConneX) and their intelligent worklist system called Canvas. These systems, along with access to RANT’s administrative team, “go into streamlining our workflow, increasing efficiency, and allowing radiologists to help patients get the care they need,” said Dr. Wheeler.

Along with innovative practice management, TRA will specifically benefit from RANT’s comprehensive team of radiologists. “Like so many radiology partnerships in smaller markets, Texarkana Radiology Associates has had increasing demand with decreasing staff,” said Dr. Mike Hill, a physician at TRA. “We have had difficulty replacing our retiring physicians. Joining with Radiology Associates of North Texas is an opportunity for us to receive the additional staffing we need while maintaining our character as a physician-owned and operated partnership. Our merger will provide our patients with access to additional expertise from hundreds of board-certified radiologists and 24-hour continuity of care.”

There exists a strong cultural and philosophical alignment between the three groups. “We like that Radiology Associates of North Texas is 100% Radiologist-owned and focused on radiology, without the pressures of meeting investor expectations,” said Dr. Wheeler. “We are excited to be teaming up with RANT, and we look forward to a bright future for all of us.”

RANT is proud to welcome fifteen radiologists, one nurse practitioner, and one Radiology PA to the practice. These mergers are an exciting step as RANT continues to partner with like-minded practices throughout North Texas.
